This model is the WelsoToy 2 Door Sedan Car in Dark Blue Police livery. It is identical to the earlier produced friction drive version apart from the battery powered electric motor and remote control that allows the vehicle to move forwards and backwards only (no steering).
The model has a one-piece, pressed metal body, 285mm in length. It has been shaped with rudimentary representations of the body lines. There is no glazing - all the features are lithographed onto the body. At the front are representations of the windows and two policemen, head lights and grille, and bumpers with printed numberplate – white lettering on a black background [141 RMC]. The bonnet has a white line and two red and white flashes representing body trim down the centre. To the sides there are outlines of the doors, the door handles are present, and there are white lines representing body trim. The lower sides are in dark blue with a single white curved line representing body trim, lithographed wing mirrors, and lithographed representations of the wheels. The upper body has representations of the windows with the two policemen. The roof is dark blue and still has its original blue plastic roof sign (which lights up) reading "Police" (on the front and rear) in white lettering. The rear bears the legend "Made in Gt Britain" in yellow text below the representation of the boot lid and below this is another white lettered "Police" sign. The black numberplate with white lettering lettering reading "141 RMC" and the lithographed bumpers and rear lights finish off the rear.
The original rubber wheels are still on the model, mounted on steel axles with crimped ends. The rear axle passes through the electric drive motor to power the vehicle. The lead from the remote to the motor passes through the rear body, just next tot the right rear lights.
The baseplate is a single piece, pressed tin unit. It has been press fitted to the body and the tab edges rolled to hold it over the edges of the body. It has been painted in a light blue colour. There are no manufacturer's marks or country of origin details on the base.
I do not know exactly when this item was issued but believe it to be between 1950 and 1960.
