This model is the Triang Caterpillar D8 in cream. This item is plastic and has a flywheel friction drive.
The model has a diecast plastic body with tow hook on the rear. It has been shaped with rudimentary representations of the body lines. There is no glazing.
The original black plastic rear wheels are still on the model, mounted on a plastic axle. The front driving wheels appear to be rubber, attached to a steel axle that passes through the friction drive motor to power the vehicle, the flywheel being mounted inside the body.
There is no base plate. The underside of the casting does not carry the legend "Triang" and "Made in England" as some of the other Triang items in my collection, and the friction drive has been press fitted to the body and the plastic body pins melted to hold it to the body.
I do not know exactly when this item was issued but believe it to be between the 1950s and 1960s.
