This model is the Solido 23D Peugeot 504 Break (Stationwagon/Estate) in red in the livery of Sapeurs Pompiers (Fire Service). This model was produced as a single issue release.
This model represents a Sapeurs Pompiers (Fire Service) Support Ambulance version of the Peugeot 504 Estate in red and as such is adorned with Sapeurs Pompiers logo in white on the driver's side door only. (NOTE: my model did not come with any transfers for adding to the model, something that is unusual for Solido models which often arrive with only one set of transfers applied to the model but with a separate sheet of additional transfers that the purchaser applies. It may be that they were simply missed out of the packaging during manufacture.)
The model has opening front side doors, closed rear side doors and an opening rear hatch. The roof is adorned with blue light and radio aerial. It has chromed front and rear bumpers and grill.
The interior is a tan plastic with a left hand drive tan plastic steering wheel and also contains a white plastic, removable stretcher bed and a set of white plastic oxygen bottles. The glazing is clear with molded wipers and interior rear-vision mirror and the rear side glazing is striated, presumably to suggest a degree of privacy screening for any injured passenger being carried.
All wheels have simulated chrome hubs - solid, one piece metal with separate black "rubber" tyres.
The base plate is black painted metal and is marked with "SOLIDO Made in France" in the centre top and "Peugeot 504 Break" followed by "1/43 No.23 3-74" at the centre bottom. The base plate casting also has cast drive shaft and transmission system. It is held in place with a single self tapping screw.
This model was issued around 1974-75. I've always assumed Solido's practice of having numbers on the baseplate related to the month and year the model was either released or designed.
