Matchbox Yesteryear: Y22-1-B-4 Ford Model A Van (1930) - Isle Of Man TT 1988 - Code 3

This model is the Matchbox Yesteryear Y22-1-B-4 Ford Model A Van (1930) in Isle of Man TT 1988 livery. Produced as a commissioned model in a limited edition, the model was issued to coincide with the 1988 Isle of Man TT Races, probably by Mervyn Wynne, who also organised the release of several MB38 Ford Model A vans for the races between 1986 and 1992. This model comes packed in its original maroon coloured box.

The model has no opening parts. The vehicle roof is red, the seats are fawn plastic, the cab roof type is raised panel Type "2", the rear van roof is type "B". The decals are specially designed - a representation of the island on the front doors and a black, gold and white rear body decal that reads "May 30 - June10 1988, Isle Of Man, TT" on three lines. The glazing is clear.

Cab Roof: Yellow "Type 2" (raised panel effect) - one piece metal casting covering both cab and van body
Rear Canopy: Glossy Red "Type B" (wider guideline ridge at front of van roof)
Radiator: one piece plastic unit. Chrome plastic grille surround and front lights
Seats: Fawn plastic
Steering Wheel: Black plastic
Wheel Hubs: Chrome, 24 spoke, plastic
Tyres: Black with Whitewall effect
Plated Parts: Chrome colour
Box Type: J - maroon box
Other Comments/Identifying Features: The model has clear glazing all round, chromed grille with molded number plate(?) [6L 31 27 on upper line and CAL 35 on the lower line] with corresponding rear number plate [6L 31 27]. The base plate is held in place with one rivet and two body tabs, has a 3mm hole cast behind the "gearbox" housing and is stamped Y21 Models of Yesteryear.

This Code 3 Promotional model was issued in 1988 as a limited edition of an unknown quantity. The model carries no indication of its issue number although the box has a handwritten "No.12 B" on the bar code panel and a gold label, with black lettering reading "A Special, Commissioned Model, of a Limited Edition, Artistry Not Supplied By, Matchbox Int'l Limited" on 5 lines on the box header. It has a stated scale of 1:40.
