This model is the Matchbox-Dinky Austin A40 van (1953) in two liveries. The first livery (issue 15a) is that of Brooke Bond Tea, the second (issue 15b) is the Dinky Toys livery.

There are no opening parts on the models. All features are either cast into the metal or comprise photo-etched parts which are attached during the finishing of the model. The semaphore indicators, door handles, petrol cap and some trim appear to be tampo printed in silver. The "Flying A" Austin hood emblem, front lights and front bumper (including the number-plate [JFW 390] are chromed plastic. The only rear lights are represented by cast areas either side of the number-plate (silver on black background) below which the rear bumper is a simple black plastic moulding.

DY-15
This model is finished in red paint and has Brooke Bond Tea tampo printed to each side in silver with a black outline. Both driver's and passenger's doors carry a green and black tea leaf as it would appear when first picked.

The interior is cream plastic and it has a black plastic, right hand drive steering wheel, mounted below a non-detailed dashboard (instrument panel). The glazing is clear plastic and the front windscreen has molded representations for the windscreen wipers and quarter-light windows on the side door windows.

DY-15b
This model is finished in bright yellow paint and has DINKY TOYS tampo printed to each rear side in red on a white background. Both driver's and passenger's doors carry black lettering "Binns Road Liverpool 13" on two lines.

The interior is tan plastic and it has a black plastic, right hand drive steering wheel, mounted below a non-detailed dashboard (instrument panel). The glazing is clear plastic and the front windscreen has molded representations for the windscreen wipers and quarter-light windows on the side door windows.

All wheels appear to be one piece, plastic hubs in the fashion of the hub-capped wheel of the era with separate black "rubber" tyres. Chromed plastic hubcaps appear to have been press fitted to the wheel hubs. The 15a has red wheels with chromed "caps" and the 15b has black wheels with chromed "caps".

The base plate on both models is black painted metal with the Matchbox logo and ©1990 on the first line, "Matchbox INT'L LTD" on the second line at the top centre, DINKY in the centre above the simulated drive shaft, "1952 Austin A40 GV4 10-CWT van" in the centre below the driveshaft and "DY15 Made in China" at the centre bottom. It also carries a rudimentary representation of the gearbox, drive shaft and differential housing. It is held in place by 1 small machined rivet and a body lug.

It is interesting to note the Modern Dinky packaging refers to the van as a 1953 van whereas the casting is marked 1952.

Issue date is the 1980s and the scale is said to be 1/43.
