This model is of the Fun Ho! #26 Ford Thames Freighter Pickup in chrome and red.

There are no opening parts on this model. All features are cast into the metal of the model. The model appears to be based on a Ford Thames 400E.

At the front of the Fun Ho! Ford Thames there is a cast representation of the front bumper, headlights, and grille. Both sides carry cast body lines and representation of the cab doors. The rear is cast to show a well deck with simulated timber flooring and painted in red.

There is no interior. There is no glazing.

All wheels appear to be one piece, black plastic, typical of the Fun Ho! miniatures of the time, mounted on steel domed axles.

The base plate appears to be chromed also and carries representations of the gearbox, drive shaft, and exhaust system. It is held in place by three machined rivets, one each side and one to the rear. There are no markings to denote model number, but the base is marked "Fun Ho!, N.Z." to the top centre, and "Thames Pickup" to the bottom centre.

Ford Thames 400E Dropside (1960) (27460949523)

This is likely to have been an early issue due to the chrome finish, issued between 1964 and 1966. During its lifetime 69,900 Thames Pickups were manufactured, in Chrome initially and later with a paint finish.

The scale is unknown but thought to be around 1:77. My reasoning is that the normal length for the Ford Thames was 155 inches (3.93 metres) and the model has a length of 2 inches (50mm) (155/2 = 1:77, 3.93/.05 = 1:78). [notwithstanding the fact we all know these models were not made to a precise scale but usually to fit a set box size].
