This model is of the Fun Ho! #18 Austin Articulated Truck in chrome.
There are no opening parts on this model although the rear tipper works. All features are cast into the metal of the model. The model appears to be based on an Austin Loadstar cab and chassis such as this Austin Articulated Box Van.
At the front of the Fun Ho! Austin cab unit there is a cast representation of the front bumper, headlights and grille. Both sides carry cast body lines and representation of the cab doors. The rear trailer is cast to show a flat, well deck trailer.
There is no interior. There is no glazing.
All wheels appear to be one piece, black plastic, typical of the Fun Ho! miniatures of the time.
There is no base plate as such - the underside is also chromed and shaped to represent the crude chassis outline and the fuel tank. There are no markings to denote model number or manufacturer on the cab unit but the trailer is stamped "Fun Ho! N.Z." on two lines. The area between the cab unit chassis rails has been modified to accommodate the articulated trailer's coupling pin.
This is likely to have been an early issue due to the chrome finish, issued between 1964 and 1966. During its lifetime 68,100 Austin Articulated Trucks were manufactured, in Chrome initially and later with a paint finish.
The scale is unknown but thought to be around 1:76. My reasoning is that the normal chassis length for the Austin Loadstar was 134 inches and the model has a chassis of 1.75 inches (134/1.75 = 1:76). [notwithstanding the fact we all know these models were not made to a precise scale but usually to fit a set box size].
