This model is of the Fun Ho! #4 Austin Tanker in chrome and copper.
There are no opening parts on this model. All features are cast into the metal of the model. The model appears to be based on an Austin Loadstar such as this Austin, also modeled by Fun Ho! as #3 and done in a Chrome/Copper finish.
At the front of the Fun Ho! Austin there is a cast representation of the front bumper, headlights, and grille. Both sides carry cast body lines and representation of the cab doors. The cab and chassis are plated in chrome. The rear, plated in copper, is cast with a hole in the rear (possibly to facilitate plating) and represents a tanker with three filler caps that is fixed to the body/chassis via a single machined rivet.
There is no interior. There is no glazing.
All wheels appear to be one piece, black plastic, typical of the Fun Ho! miniatures of the time, fitted to steel domed axles. The rear wheel are double units.
There is no base plate as such - the underside is also chromed and shaped to represent the crude chassis outline and the fuel tank. There are no markings to denote model number or manufacturer on either the cab/chassis casting or the rear deck casting. The area between the chassis rails is filled in to accommodate the riveting of the rear. Other examples of the Austin cab and chassis I have are open between the rails or have been modified as in the case of the #18 to accommodate the articulated trailer's coupling pin.
This is likely to have been an early issue due to the chrome and copper finish, issued between 1964 and 1966. During its lifetime 65,100 Austin Tankers were manufactured, plated initially and later with a paint finish.
The scale is unknown but thought to be around 1:76. My reasoning is that the normal chassis length for the Austin Loadstar was 134 inches (3.403 metres) and the model has a chassis length of 1.75 inches (134/1.75 = 1:76). [notwithstanding the fact we all know these models were not made to a precise scale but usually to fit a set box size].
