This model is the Dinky 955-G-3 Commer Fire Engine in Red. This is the scarcer version with windows and plastic hubs.
The model features a red cast metal cab and body with a separate silver cast metal ladder. At the front the grille, bumper, and headlights are picked out in silver. All other features are cast into the body casting — cab doors and handles, hatch covers, side hoses and reels, rear gauges, hoses and pump mechanism, and roof bells, ladder restraint and water tank filler hatch. The separate roof ladder (missing the extension) is fitted to a swiveling, black, tin mounting at the rear of the body.
The model has no interior, but has clear glazing in the cab windows.
All wheels consist of red plastic "Supertoy" hubs, each with black rubber tyre, fitted to steel domed axles.
The base plate is black painted tin with Dinky Supertoys to the centre top, "Fire Engine" belwo this, and "Made in England, Meccano Ltd" on two lines at the centre bottom. The model reference number "955" is at right angles to the rear axle. The base is fixed through the use of two machined rivets.
This model was issued between 1955 and 1959. This would have been one of the last produced due to the use of plastic hubs.
