This model is the Dinky 40a-G-3 Riley Saloon in dark blue.
This model features a single piece cast body with separate cast headlights (often missing from the models after all these years). The body casting has two internal rear pillars that hold the axles in place. The entire body is painted dark blue with the grille, front and rear bumpers, and headlight lenses picked out in silver. The wheel hubs are of the cast ridged variety and also painted black. There is no interior or glazing.
The base plate is lacquered tinplate metal with a blackish tinge. It is marked with "Dinky Toys" at the top centre, "Riley" in the middle centre, "Meccano Ltd" immediately below this, and "Made in England" on a single line just below the front rivet. This is the early base with small lettering and it is held in place by three machined rivets, one at the front and two to the rear.
All wheels consist of black cast hubs with black rubber tyres on steel axles.
This model was issued between 1947 and 1953.
