This model is the Dinky 25f-G Market Gardener's Truck in orange and black. This is an item that has been RESTORED, by an unknown person, to represent the listed and photographed Orange version (pg 32, "The Great Book of Dinky Toys" by Mike & Sue Richardson, published 2000 by New Cavendish Books [ISBN 1 82727 83 2]), although it should have black hubs, not orange.
The model features no opening parts, all features are cast into the body casting. At the front the headlights and grille are a separate cast metal component, probably a reproduction part. The sides show cast engine cover louvres, body lines and doors, and the rear deck is cast to represent the wooden slat sides and deck floor. At the rear there is a cast tow hook. There is no interior or glazing on this model and the cab windows remain open. The front and rear wheel arches, chassis and running boards are details molded into the type 4 base plate of the model.
All wheels are of the shaped cast metal type - solid one piece cast metal hubs with a separate black "rubber" tyre on a steel rounded axle.
The base plate of this model is held in place by the axles which pass through holes cast into thin columns on the body to secure the two together. It carries the legend Dinky Toys at the centre top, "Made in England by" and "Meccano Ltd" on two lines at the centre bottom. It also carries a representation of the engine, drive shaft and rear differential.
This item was issued between 1947 and 1950, evidenced by the solid chassis with cast drive shaft detail. Earlier versions had an open chassis or a closed chassis with single round hole. The trucks were sold in trade boxes and not individually packaged.
