Item 1012

This model is the Corgi 259-a-1 Citroen Le Dandy Coupe in metallic maroon. The photos above show Item 1012 in mint and boxed condition.

The doors and boot are the only opening parts on this model. The front lights and spotlights are represented by clear lenses inset into the body and into a separate Spotlight chromed plastic casting that appears to be part of the chromed front bumper casting. The rear lights are represented by red painted dots on the chromed rear bumper.

The interior is cream plastic with a left hand drive steering wheel cast into the interior casting. It also has folding seat backs on the front seats. The glazing is clear at the front and rear and carries no molding for wipers or demisters.

All wheels are of a wire spoked type - one piece metal hubs with a black "rubber" tyre.

The base plate is metallic maroon painted metal and is marked with CORGI TOYS at the centre top, "Le Dandy Coupe, Henri Chapron body on Citroen DS Chassis" in the centre middle and MADE IN GT. BRITAIN, PATENT APPLICATION 24751/63 at the centre bottom. The base plate is held in place with the usual two machined rivets, front and rear.

This casting was used between April 1966 and the end of 1969. Corgi sold over 544,000 of the Citroen in metallic maroon (issued 1966) and metallic blue (issued 1967-69), yet it remains a difficult item to find complete and in good condition.
