This model is the Corgi 402-A-2 Ford Cortina GXL two door sedan in white Police livery. This model has fluorescent pink and plain black stripes on each side. The roof sign, containing blue plastic roof beacon, carries a white lettering on black background "POLICE" sign on the front and a white and orange lettering on black background "POLICE STOP" (on 2 lines) on the rear.
It has opening doors only. The front lights are represented by twin clear lenses set into the black plastic radiator grill molding. The rear lights are painted red shapes. Separate metal moldings (chromed or polished?) represent the front and rear bumpers.
The interior is dark red plastic with a right hand drive, silver metal steering wheel. The model was issued with folding front seat backs - Item 1018 is missing the driver's side seat back. The glazing is clear all round.
All wheels are of the "speed wheel" type - hollow one piece plastic with a "chromed" patterned "hub"in the center.
The base plate is black painted metal and is marked with "Made in GT Britain" at the top centre, Corgi Toys on the second line, "WHIZZWHEELS" on the third line, "Ford Cortina GXL" on the fourth line and "PAT APP No. 3396/69" at the bottom centre. The base casting also includes the front siren "horn" which protrudes in the centre, below the front bumper. It is held in place with two machined rivets.
This model was issued in August 1972 and withdrawn in 1977. Corgi produced 601,000 of this item . Its scale was stated to be 1:43.
