This model is the Corgi 230-A-3 Mercedes Benz 220 SE Coupe in Dark Red.
It has an opening boot only. The exterior is painted dark red with the grill and headlights picked out in silver and rear indicators picked out in orange. The bumpers and all other features are cast into the body, including the Mercedes emblem/ornament at the top of the radiator grill. This particular example has been further adorned with several Corgi Accessory Labels - tax certificate on right hand side front windscreen, GB and AA badges either side of the grill, rear number plate [PLI 219] plus "L" plate and GB sticker at the rear.
The interior is a yellow vac-formed insert into which a grey plastic steering wheel has been fitted. The glazing is clear plastic.
All wheels are of the "shaped" type - spun, polished wheel hubs with separate "rubber" tyres.
The base plate is grey painted metal and is marked over the front axle area with "Foreign Patents Pending", in the centre with Mercedes Benz on the first line, "220 SE Coupe" on the second line, "CORGI TOYS" on the third line, "PATENT APPLICATION" on the fourth line, "21101/59 and 10408/60" on the fifth line and "Made in GT Britain" on the sixth line. The model number "230" is cast at the rear behind the rear axles. It is held in place with two rivets.
This model was issued between February 1962 and 1964 and 535,000 were sold. This figure includes the black, dark blue and cream versions. The scale was stated to be 1:48.
